Father’s Day Message

My name is Jordan, Worship & Spiritual Growth Pastor here – Happy Fathers Day!

Have Dads stand and pray for them- Prayer Wall Invite – check out this graphic for any future prayer requests we would
love to have you send them there so others can pray for you within the church.

What makes you a Father? Kids right (all kinds: blood, step, adopted, etc)? Show pic of my family and then Dad and father in-law etc.
– Honor Father like figures in my life: (Chris, Pastor Baier, Mike Ploen)
– What’s Father’s Day like for you? (Think about that for a moment? Let it sink
in) For me it’s…
– Talk about real-life issues that you have with your dad, approval from other
father-like figure and always seeking it because we never heard that growing up…(are you there?) (good and bad) (Give directions story and backdrop to
where you’re at now)

3 things that can get in the way of us trusting God

1) Harness unforgiveness
– 31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all
types of evil behavior. 32 Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving
one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you. Eph 4:31-32
– Are you waiting for the perfect timing to come to where you’ll confess to
God your sin? Or confess to someone else (spouse, friend, neighbor,
co-worker, enemy)? (It won’t ever be perfect)
– “You confess to God for forgiveness, you confess to others for
healing” – Craig Groeschel
– Reading the Bible and hearing this quote started me on this journey with
my Dad and I’s relationship

2) Pride (we love to have control and get in the way, it’s what comes natural)
– Proverbs 15:16-17 Better to have little, with fear for the Lord, than to have great
treasure and inner turmoil. A bowl of vegetables with someone you love is better
than steak with someone you hate. (Vegetables, God wrote this verse for me lol)
– Our pride and our wants is what holds us hostage here, SEE THE VICTORY
NOT THE BATTLE, SEE THE SOLUTION NOT THE PROBLEM
– We love to have control, God loves to have our heart

3) Living in denial (believing we’re all good)
– We are broken and not ok, once we realize this it changes our actions
– 8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us
while we were still sinners. Rom 5:8
– We are the best at small talk, this should be a red flag if we’re really good
at it (virtually no real or deep relationships)
– When we live in denial no fruit gets developed so then “The people that
know you best end up resenting you and those that know you least love
you”
– 1 John 4:10 This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and
sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. (When we experience His love,
we experience genuine freedom which helps us become humble and where the
transformation begins. We start to see Jesus as Lord and not us as Lord
– This is the hope of the gospel so we can experience joy, peace, love, patience
and why we can live with these in our daily lives

What next step can you take today that will help you trust God more?

1) Forgive like Jesus – forgiving when it’s hard (on the cross he forgives those who put him up there)
– “Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.”Luke
23:34
– We all want grace whenever we screw up but when we’ve been wronged we
want justice towards that person (Let this sink in)
– Forgive like Jesus and look to the future…there’s hope and great things awaiting
when you do, there was and is for me today!

2) Being selfless – Ask good questions (more What then Why)
– He gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was
born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself
in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.” Philippians 2:7-8 Nlt
– We aren’t gonna be hung on a cross anytime soon but we can love people right
where there at by just being selfless

3) Living in the reality that we all need Jesus
– You having control and not needing Jesus isn’t helping “how’s that going for
you?”
– He loves the real you not the filtered version you want everyone to see
– But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we
were still sinners. Rom 5:8
– Father’s Day can be tough and given my situation sometimes it’s weird on days
like this but it reminds me how much I need to trust God more…were in this
together
– “He is not trying to set someone free temporarily but from an eternal
problem”
– What’s your next step? I’m going to give you 90 seconds to talk with God and you
ask Him what’s your next step and ask Him to give you the courage to carry it
out.
– We’re going to worship to this song “Goodness of God” and let’s worship Him because like
the chorus says “All my life you have been faithful” He offers grace, love, and goodness
every day, let’s sing to Him!
