Foundations – Week 1

The Trinity is the idea that God eternally exists in three distinct and co-equal persons.

Deuteronomy 6:4 NIV – Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God, the Lord is one.

Isaiah 45:18 – For the Lord is God, and he created the heavens and earth and put everything in place. He made the world to be lived in, not to be a place of empty chaos. “I am the Lord,” he says, “and there is no other.”

Matthew 3:16-17 – After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”

John 14:6-11 – Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is. From now on, you do know him and have seen him!” Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.” Jesus replied, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show him to you? Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I speak are not my own, but my Father who lives in me does his work through me. Just believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Or at least believe because of the work you have seen me do.

Why does The Trinity matter? Because God is all about relationship! Even in the Trinity there is perfect unity, community and love. And Your Heavenly Father invites us into relationship.

God the Father:

1. Sees you.

2. Is for you.

3. Is with you.

Deuteronomy 31:6 . . . So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.

You weren’t made for religion but for relationship and we are called to live as children of the Father.

1. Receive your Identity from the Father.

2. Reflect His character.

3. Rest in His love.
