Foundations – Week 3

Big Idea: The Holy Spirit is God with us in all of life.

 1. The Trinity is the idea that God eternally exists in three distinct and co-equal persons.

Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself – 1 Corinthians 6:19

And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.  Ephesians 1:13-14

 2. Who is the Holy Spirit and what does He do?

  • He is a guide.
  • He is not your conscience.
  • He convicts.

Satan condemns, the Holy Spirit Convicts.

  • Condemnation is general.  Conviction is specific.
  • Condemnation is meant to shame & paralyze. Conviction is meant to correct, change and restore.
  • Condemnation brings fear and hiding. Conviction brings freedom and action.

Example of Conviction:

Peter’s words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?” Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away[a]—all who have been called by the Lord our God.”  Acts 2:37-39

You can’t follow someone you’re not listening to!

3. The Holy Spirit is speaking, so how do we listen?

  • Read the Bible
  • Prayer
  • Godly Counsel
  • Messages, Worship

Next Steps:

  1. Invite His Presence.
  2. Listen for His voice.
  3. Obey His leading.
