Who do you trust?

One-tenth of the produce of the land, whether grain from the fields or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord and must be set apart to him as holy. Leveticus 27:30

What is tithing?

  • Tithing is not charity
  • Tithing is not giving – I give once and a while, it’s not related to time
  • Tithing – is returning to God what belongs to him

Generosity is Possible

1. If you plan it

But generous people plan to do what is generous, and they stand firm in their generosity. Isaiah 32:8

2. If you believe that it has nothing to do with wealth

Now I want you to know, dear brothers and sisters, [a] what God in his kindness has done through the churches in Macedonia. 2 They are being tested by many troubles, and they are very poor. But they are also filled with abundant joy, which has overflowed in rich generosity.

3 For I can testify that they gave not only what they could afford, but far more. And they did it of their own free will. 4 They begged us again and again for the privilege of sharing in the gift for the believers in Jerusalem. [b] 5 They even did more than we had hoped, for their first action was to give themselves to the Lord and to us, just as God wanted them to do. 2 Corinthians 8:3-5

3. If you believe that God is first place

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. Matthew 6:33

You must not have any other god but me. Exodus 20:3

4. If you believe that the Church is the hope of the World

18 And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him. 19 For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation.20 So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!” 2 Corinthians 5:18-20
