Not the Same – Week 3

Catholicism

“Genuine tolerance does not mean ignoring differences as if differences made no difference. Genuine tolerance means engaging differences within a bond of civility and respect.”

– Richard John Neuhaus

The Bible is different:

  • 40 authors
  • 3 languages
  • 3 contents
  • 1,500 years

Prophecy is the reason it’s validated as a book.

The Bible contains 1,817 prophecies.

The odds of one person fulfilling just 8 of these is 1 in 10 to the 17th power.

Jesus fulfilled 324 alone.

What’s the difference between Biblical Christianity and Catholicism?

There are 4 differences:

  1. Church Tradition
  2. Papacy
  3. Extra Old Testament books
  4. Grace

8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.

Ephesians  2:8-9

14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:14

To add to the Gospel is to take away from it.

a person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ.

Galatians 2:16

17 But if, in seeking to be justified in Christ, we Jews find ourselves also among the sinners, doesn’t that mean that Christ promotes sin? Absolutely not!”

Galatians 2:17

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,Romans 3:23

“In my soul, I can’t tell you how dark it is, how painful, how terrible — I feel like refusing God.”

Mother Teresa

19 “For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God. 20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Galatians 2:19-20

21 I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing! Galatians 2:21

5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus,

1 Timothy 2:5

Christianity is not a religion, it’s the end of religion.

Next Steps:

  • Trust that Jesus is enough
  • Receive Jesus as Savior
  • Lovingly share the truth
