Sand – Week 1

24 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. 25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. Mathew 7:24-25

26 But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. 27 When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”Mathew 7:26-27

Two options

Option A

  • Build your life on Jesus

Option B

  • Build your life on yourself l

When Jesus had finished saying all this to the people, he returned to Capernaum. 2 At that time the highly valued slave of a Roman officer[a] was sick and near death. Luke 7:1-2

3 When the officer heard about Jesus, he sent some respected Jewish elders to ask him to come and heal his slave. 4 So they earnestly begged Jesus to help the man. “If anyone deserves your help, he does,” they said, 5 “for he loves the Jewish people and even built a synagogue for us.”Luke 7:3-5

  •  Faith Starts when we realize you need Jesus

  •  Faith means we stop keeping score and acknowledge that we aren’t worthy

So Jesus went with them. But just before they arrived at the house, the officer sent some friends to say, “Lord, don’t trouble yourself by coming to my home, for I am not worthy of such an honor. Luke 7:5-6

  •  Faith means we trust His authority

8 I know this because I am under the authority of my superior officers, and I have authority over my soldiers. I only need to say, ‘Go,’ and they go, or ‘Come,’ and they come. And if I say to my slaves, ‘Do this,’ they do it.” Luke 7:8

9 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed. Turning to the crowd that was following him, he said, “I tell you, I haven’t seen faith like this in all Israel!” 10 And when the officer’s friends returned to his house, they found the slave completely healed.Luke 7:9-10

Two things amaze Jesus

  1.  People with lack of faith
  2.  People with great faith

Faith is trusting without fully understanding

Next Steps

  • Decide what you are going to build your life on
  • What area of your life will you give to Him that you have held on to?
