How to Stop Overthinking and Start Thanking
18 Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
You can be thankful in all circumstances even when
- You are waiting
- You are not getting what you want
- You are hurting
- You don’t have the answers
The problems with over thinking through your problems
- Overthinking creates anxiety
- Overthinking leads to exhaustion
- Overthinking leads to negative patterns
- Overthinking leads to self-reliance
- Overthinking changes nothing
Reasons to be thankful:
1.Because of who God is
Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise! No one can measure his greatness.Psalms 145:3
Let them praise the Lord for his great love and for the wonderful things he has done for them.
Psalms 107:8
I will thank the Lord because he is just; I will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High.
Psalms 7:17
I will sacrifice a voluntary offering to you;I will praise your name, O Lord, for it is good.Psalms 54:6
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.
Psalms 118:1
2. Because of what He has done
I will praise you forever, O God, for what you have done.I will trust in your good name in the presence of your faithful people.Psalms 52:9
God has done 4 major things
1st He created you!
2nd He has offered you salvation so you can live forever with him!
3rd He has answered your prayers!
4th He gives you direction for life
3. Because of what God promises
For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory.2 Corinthians 1:20
How can I show my thanks for who God is?
1. By thanking God in prayer
Always be joyful. 17 Never stop praying. 18 Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
2. By telling others your story
In that wonderful day you will sing: “Thank the Lord! Praise his name! Tell the nations what he has done. Let them know how mighty he is! Isaiah 12:4
3. By giving back to God
11 Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God.God. 2 Cor. 9:11
4. By serving Him
And so, dear brothers and sisters,I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Romans 12:1
5. By Receiving God’s Gift of Freedom
