Winning the Battle in Your Mind – Week 2
Anxiety and Depression
2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
Romans 12:2
Anxiety takes your breath away.
Depression convinces you it’s not worth trying to breathe.
Why do we struggle?
1. We Live in a Constant State of Chaos
We were created for rhythm, rest, and relationship with God, but we’re drowning in pressure, perfectionism, and performance.
2. We Don’t Know How to Sit in Silence
Most of us don’t process life, we just consume more content to numb it.
3. We Believe the Lie That We’re Alone or Not Enough
Anxiety says, “You’re not safe.” Depression says, “You’re not seen.”
But God says, “I am with you, I am for you, and I will never leave you.”
God Has an Answer
6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6–7
1. Celebrate God’s Goodness
2. Ask for Help
I look up to the mountains— does my help come from there?2 My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth! Psalm 121:1-2
3. Drop Your Worry Where It Belongs
Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. 1 Peter 5:7
4. Put Good on Repeat
8 And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Philippians 4:8
