Summer in the Psalms – Week 5

When Your Soul Feels Empty

Psalms 63

What to do when your soul feels empty?

1.  Pursue God with Urgency

O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you.My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you
in this parched and weary land where there is no water.
I have seen you in your sanctuary and gazed upon your power and glory.Psalm 63:1-2

2. Let God Be Your Satisfaction

Your unfailing love is better than life itself;how I praise you!I will praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer. You satisfy me more than the richest feast.I will praise you with songs of joy.Psalm 63:3-5

3. Stay Close When It’s Dark

I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night.Because you are my helper,I sing for joy in the shadow of your wings.I cling to you;your strong right hand holds me securely. Psalm 63:6-8

4. Trust God with What You Can’t Control

But those plotting to destroy me will come to ruin. They will go down into the depths of the earth. They will die by the sword and become the food of jackals. But the king will rejoice in God.All who swear to tell the truth will praise him, while liars will be silenced.Psalm 63:9-11

David walked a literal desert but Jesus walked the ultimate wilderness

Rejected. Betrayed. Alone.

On the cross, He cried out: “My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?”

I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again.Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.John 6:35

Next Steps

1. Start Your Day Plugged Into God

Give God your first 15 minutes—read a Psalm, pray honestly, journal a verse. Begin your day connected to the real Source.

2. Turn Down the Noise

Fast something this week—social media, TV, or distraction—and spend that time in prayer or quiet reflection.

3. Cling to Jesus, Not Control

Whatever you’re trying to manage on your own, surrender it to Jesus this week. Trust the One who holds you securely.
