Who Decides What’s True?

When it comes to who decides what’s true, we have at least three options:

1st: I do

all the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes. Judges 21:25

2nd: Trends

3rd: The Bible

66 books

40 authors

1,500 years

  •  I don’t speak on my own authority. The Father who sent me has commanded me what to say and how to say it.  John 12:49

2 reasons the bible has credibility

  • 1st: Historical credibility:

It was now the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius, the Roman emperor. Pontius Pilate was governor over Judea; Herod Antipas was ruler over Galilee; his brother Philip was ruler over Iturea and Traconitis; Lysanias was ruler over Abilene. 2 Annas and Caiaphas were the high priests. At this time a message from God came to John, son of Zechariah, who was living in the wilderness.” Luke 3:1-2

  • 2nd: Authoritative Credibility

Two common objections that came up in the questions you wrote in:

  • 1st: The Bible is filled with contradictions

  • 2nd: You can interpret the Bible anyway you want

For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.  Hebrews 4:12
