Battle Ready – Week 2

I Have Power

I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power 20 that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 1:19-20

Now he is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else—not only in this world but also in the world to come. Ephesians 1:21

God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church. 23 And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself. Ephesians 1:22-23

As humans we have figured a lot out

  • We can take the wind and make power out of it
  • We can take the sun and make power out of it
  • We can even take jelly fish and make power out of them

The one power we haven’t figured out is raising someone from the dead

The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you. Romans 8:11

It is the power that raises dead things back to life

Dead Marriages

Dead in your debt

Dead in your past

Dead in your emotions

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Acts 1:8

2 ways to exercise this power

  •  Tell someone about Jesus

I have never experienced the power of God more than when I tell someone else about Jesus.  Acts 1:8

When I first came to you, dear brothers and sisters, I didn’t use lofty words and impressive wisdom to tell you God’s secret plan. 2 For I decided that while I was with you, I would forget everything except Jesus Christ, the one who was crucified. 1 Corinthians 2:1-2

3 I came to you in weakness—timid and trembling. 4 And my message and my preaching were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit. 5 I did this so you would trust not in human wisdom but in the power of God.

1 Corinthians 2:3-5

  •  You have to put yourself in a position to need God’s power

When I first came to you, dear brothers and sisters, [a] I didn’t use lofty words and impressive wisdom to tell you God’s secret plan. [b] 2 For I decided that while I was with you, I would forget everything except Jesus Christ, the one who was crucified. 3 I came to you in weakness—timid and trembling. 4 And my message and my preaching were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit. 5 I did this so you would trust not in human wisdom but in the power of God.

1 Cor 2:1-5

He gives strength to the powerless

He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.30 Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. Isaiah 40:29-30

But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
