Responding to Betrayal
One night Joseph had a dream, and when he told his brothers about it, they hated him more than ever. Genesis 37:5
Instead of hurting him, let’s sell him to those Ishmaelite traders. After all, he is our brother—our own flesh and blood!” And his brothers agreed. Genesis 37:27
How do you overcome a betrayal?
You can overcome it. Here’s two ways:
- Trust that God will somehow work this for good
You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people. Genesis 50:20
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. Romans 8:28
- Don’t allow bitterness to take root
Look after each other so that none of you fail to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many. Hebrews 12:15
Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Ephesians 4:31
and he went to the leading priests and captains of the Temple guard to discuss the best way to betray Jesus to them. Luke 22:4
Jesus said, “My friend, go ahead and do what you have come for.” Then the others grabbed Jesus and arrested him. Matthew 26:50
Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” [a] And the soldiers gambled for his clothes by throwing dice. Luke 23:34
