Jesus: Who He Is and Why He Matters

Big Idea:

Jesus is not just a good man or wise teacher—He is God, the Savior, and the only hope for humanity.

  1. Jesus Is God: The Eternal Son

Christ is the visible image of the invisible God.He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything…He existed before anything else,.Colossians 1:15–17

  1. Jesus Became Human: The Incarnation

Though he was God,he did not think of equality with Godas something to cling to.Instead, he gave up his divine privileges;he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being.Philippians 2:6–7

  1. Jesus Is Savior: The Cross and Resurrection

He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right.By his wounds you are healed. 1 Peter 2:24

Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said.He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.  1 Corinthians 15:3–4

  1. Jesus Is Lord: Risen, Reigning, and Returning

Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9–11

Then I saw heaven opened, and a white horse was standing there…On his robe at his thigh was written this title:King of all kings and Lord of all lords.”Revelation 19:11–16

  1. Jesus Is the Only Way: The Exclusivity of Christ

Jesus told him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life.No one can come to the Father except through me.John 14:6

There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.Acts 4:12

The gospel is inclusive in invitation but exclusive in salvation. Jesus is the only way to God.

Who Do You Say He Is?

Then he asked them, ‘But who do you say I am? Matthew 16:15 (NLT)
