Jesus – Week 4

A PICTURE OF MATURITY

About that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who is greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?”2 Jesus called a little child to him and put the child among them. Matthew 18:1-2

3 Then he said, “I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven. 4 So anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven. Matthew 18:3-4

  • Become like a child who believes

Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.

Hebrews 11:1

I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.

Mark 10:15

  • Become like a child who depends

But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.John 1:12

See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him.1 John 3:1

And now that the way of faith has come, we no longer need the law as our guardian.26 For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:25-26

AS A CHILD OF GOD, I CAN COUNT ON.

  •  An Available Father

O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me.O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me.2 You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away. Psalms 139:1-2

3 You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do.4 You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord.5 You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head.6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,too great for me to understand! Psalms 139:3-4

  •  A Patient Father

Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin? Romans 2:4

  •  A Passionate father

20 “So he returned home to his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him. 21 His son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, and I am no longer worthy of being called your son. Luke 15:20-21

22 “But his father said to the servants, ‘Quick! Bring the finest robe in the house and put it on him. Get a ring for his finger and sandals for his feet. 23 And kill the calf we have been fattening. We must celebrate with a feast, 24 for this son of mine was dead and has now returned to life. He was lost, but now he is found.’ So the party began. Luke 15:22-24
