Sand – Week 3

24 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. 25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.

Mathew 7:24-25

26 But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. 27 When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”

Mathew 7:26-27

Circumstances make us forget what we know to be true.

During a crisis what we have built our lives on gets exposed.

The disciples of John the Baptist told John about everything Jesus was doing. So John called for two of his disciples, 19 and he sent them to the Lord to ask him, “Are you the Messiah we’ve been expecting, or should we keep looking for someone else?” Luke 7:18-19

John’s two disciples found Jesus and said to him, “John the Baptist sent us to ask, ‘Are you the Messiah we’ve been expecting, or should we keep looking for someone else?’” Luke 7:20

21 At that very time, Jesus cured many people of their diseases, illnesses, and evil spirits, and he restored sight to many who were blind. 22 Then he told John’s disciples, Luke 7:21-22

“Go back to John and tell him what you have seen and heard—the blind see, the lame walk, those with leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life, and the Good News is being preached to the poor.” 23 And he added, “God blesses those who do not fall away because of me.  Luke 7:22-23

Your current problem is not a reflection of How God feels about you.

I tell you, of all who have ever lived, none is greater than John. Yet even the least person in the Kingdom of God is greater than he is!” Luke 7:28

3 ways to rebuild your foundation:

  1. Pause in the pain
  2. Trust in the hidden purposes of God
  3. Don’t lose your faith over your pain

Doubt – You have questions but are still open to God’s guidance.

Unbelief – You have already made up your mind about God.

Next steps:

– Decide what you will build your life on.

– Count on God’s promises, not your feelings.

– Look beyond your current circumstances and trust him.
