Unpredictable Savior – Week 2

Jesus valued everyone, no matter who they were or what they’d done.

Jesus valued the outsider.

Jesus entered Jericho and made his way through the town. 2 There was a man there named Zacchaeus. He was the chief tax collector in the region, and he had become very rich. 3 He tried to get a look at Jesus, but he was too short to see over the crowd. 4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree beside the road, for Jesus was going to pass that way.  5 When Jesus came by, he looked up at Zacchaeus and called him by name. “Zacchaeus!” he said. “Quick, come down! I must be a guest in your home today.” 6 Zacchaeus quickly climbed down and took Jesus to his house in great excitement and joy. 7 But the people were displeased. “He has gone to be the guest of a notorious sinner,” they grumbled.   Luke 19:1-7

Jesus valued the outcast.

“Go and get your husband,” Jesus told her. 17 “I don’t have a husband,” the woman replied.  Jesus said, “You’re right! You don’t have a husband— 18 for you have had five husbands, and you aren’t even married to the man you’re living with now. You certainly spoke the truth!” . . . 39 Many Samaritans from the village believed in Jesus because the woman had said, “He told me everything I ever did!” 40 When they came out to see him, they begged him to stay in their village. So he stayed for two days,41 long enough for many more to hear his message and believe. 42 Then they said to the woman, “Now we believe, not just because of what you told us, but because we have heard him ourselves. Now we know that he is indeed the Savior of the world.” John 4:16-18, 39-42

Jesus valued the overwhelmed.

5 Day and night he wandered among the burial caves and in the hills, howling and cutting himself with sharp stones . . . 20 So the man started off to visit the Ten Towns[a] of that region and began to proclaim the great things Jesus had done for him; and everyone was amazed at what he told them.  Mark 5:5, 20

When things feel hopeless Jesus can still bring healing.

Jesus valued the ordinary.

Jesus valued the over-looked.

Large crowds followed Jesus as he came down the mountainside.2 Suddenly, a man with leprosy approached him and knelt before him. “Lord,” the man said, “if you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean.”  3 Jesus reached out and touched him. “I am willing,” he said. “Be healed!” And instantly the leprosy disappeared.  Matthew 8:1-3

Jesus sees you!

If you’re a follower of Jesus:

  1. Who are those around you who need to know this Unpredictable Savior?
  2. Will you pray for the outsider, outcast, overwhelmed, ordinary, overlooked?

You are valuable to God!  How do we know?  Because of how much He was willing to pay for you!
