God Loves the Real You

17 As Jesus was starting out on his way to Jerusalem, a man came running up to him, knelt down, and asked, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”18 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus asked. “Only God is truly good. Mark 10:17-18

19 But to answer your question, you know the commandments: ‘You must not murder. You must not commit adultery. You must not steal. You must not testify falsely. You must not cheat anyone. Honor your father and mother.”20 “Teacher,” the man replied, “I’ve obeyed all these commandments since I was young.”Mark 10:19-20

21 Looking at the man, Jesus felt genuine love for him. “There is still one thing you haven’t done,” he told him. “Go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”22 At this the man’s face fell, and he went away sad, for he had many possessions. Mark 10:21-22

THREE “BELIEF” MISTAKES

BELIEF MISTAKE #1:

WHAT I HAVE IS HAVE IS PROBABLY ENOUGH TO HAVE A RIGHT RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD

  • BELIEF MISTAKE #2:

IF WHAT I HAVE ISN’T ENOUGH, I CAN DO MORE TO EARN MY WAY INTO HEAVEN

“We are all infected and impure with sin. When we proudly display our righteous deeds, we find they are but filthy rags.”  Isaiah 64:6

“For we all have sinned; all fall short of God’s glorious standard.”

Romans 3:23

God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. 10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

 Ephesians 2:8-10

But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses and the prophets long ago. 22 We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.   Romans 3:21, 22

BELIEF MISTAKE #3:

I CAN TRUST JESUS WITH PART OF MY LIFE AND STILL BE COMPLETELY RIGHT WITH GOD

“The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him.” 2 Chronicles 16:9

  1. Are you trying to “Do” your way into a relationship with God?

    2. Is there something missing in your life?

    3. Are you willing to give Him everything?
